A funny thing(s) happened on the way to …………………….
Sunday night I discovered a fault in the inverter. Monday we had to remove the equipment and send it to QLD. Sounds simple but by the naturw of the beast, an auto electrician will disconnect the DC but not the AC, so you need both to be available! Fortunately my tame auto electrician was available and my next door neighbour was able to do the other bit. So the morning and the evening were the first day!
Not having an inverter isn’t a major problem, although jokingly, the hair dryer wouldn’t be available!
So, Day 2 we set out from Karnup heading east and having discovered a shorter route to the Brookton Hwy, make good time and decide to stop at Kalgaring a few ks short of Hyden where we would normally hit the dirt for 300ks, the short cut to Norseman. On discussing our route at the camsite we were told that the Hyden – Norseman Road is closed for the week for major repairs!
At the end of Day 3, we are at Kalgoorlie half way round a 300k diversion. We stopped for lunch at a place Karella Dam, another of the dams built to supply the steam trains with water (as some of you might remember from previous blogs. Find a rock outcrop, build a wall round the bottom which directs the rainwater into the dam. Here it was directed by a significant aquaduct from the rock to the dam.

The dam was about a third full, an after lunch swim was welcome, the outside temp being 40+.
this became a major
