Winter 2017 Day 10

This morning it seems warmer, which is just as well as I failed to set the diesel heater timer properly and it didn’t start so I had to get out of bed to start it manually!

The last 10ks to The Olgas is not too bad because they have the graders working on it and we are able to cover the ground a bit quicker than yesterday.

We have been to the Olgas before but we need some where to stop while we some air in the tyres.   We have been running on 26psi across the dirt but now have to go backup to 40 because we are now driving on a sealed surface.

As we approach Yulara, Ayer’s Rock (Uluru) rises up out the earth (well that’s how it appears as we approach it)

We are back in tourist country and we need to get closer to Alice by this afternoon but we have to stop because we now have an internet connection again and we have to book a camp site in Alice for 3 nights.   We both have a couple of electrical problems to get fixed, Brad’s fridge is behaving very strangely and my auxiliary battery doesn’t appear to be charging fully, which is important as it keeps the fridge in the car working overnight.

Filling up with diesel is also a priority, I have managed 1250 ks on the fuel I took on in Leonora and have approximately 30 litres left!     It is more expensive at Erldunda than it is in Alice so we just put a few litres in here and will top all the tanks up  in Alice before setting off on the next stage of our trip.

Tonight we’re stopping at Stuart’s Well, approximately 90 ks from Alice Springs a station/roadhouse with a free camping ground and another you can pay for (the difference being a bit more grass and powered sites) both you pay for a shower. As we’re heading for a campsite in Alice Springs we opt for the free one.
