Its Wednesday August 1st 2018 and we are setting out on a trip that we seem to have been planning for ages. Not surprising as it involves four countries and ten flights.
We’re off……………………….https://1drv.ms/v/s!AksnrQT2cvoG0ElCXGC_8TKNXKwn
We were lucky to be able to fly on the ‘Dreamliner’ for the non-stop flight through to London from Perth. The aircraft is the Boeing 787, the ‘plastic fantastic’ (i.e. a lot of it is carbon fibre)! Although we were on the aircraft for probably 17.5 hours, it was not an unpleasant experience. The meals and cabin environment are related to destination time, so you eat on UK time and the cabin lighting reflects the time in the UK. We like this better than having to collect everything together and get off halfway, then get back on again.
Thursday 2nd August
We landed in UK 05:05, had picked the car up and were heading west by 07:00! We were unable to check in to our hotel in Salisbury until 12:00 so were explored the contryside around Salisbury for while.
Our hotel was quite pleasant and our bedroom, with it’s 4 poster window looked out over the water meadows to the Cathedral.
The main street of Salisbury looked very happy with this umbrella theme.
Friday, we headed off towards Devon and a noisy reunion with our friends over lunch at the Royal Oak in Milborne St Andrew before completing the journey to the country house which is to be our accommodation for the week.
Looks like a good start to your trip Roger and Pat.
I am not far behind you in my armchair virtual travelling via your blog.
Enjoy the West Country, Not too far from my hometown of Dorchester in Dorset, just the next county East of you and my Father was from Okehampton in North Devon. Regards Colin.
