Well, how lucky are we, this morning the skies are clear the sun is shining!!!

We drive up to the Table Mountain car park which is already full (it’s 8.30) so we park on the access road but we only have a two-minute walk to the ticket office.   The queue already seems quite long to us but we move fairly quickly and are in the cable car heading up the mountain within an hour of leaving the hotel.

The views are spectacular and the the cable car rotates so that all passengers get an all round view.

A welcoming South African.   Going up.         Table Mountain at 1086m, together with Lion Rock and the Devil’s Peak, dominate Cape Town and obviously have a serious influence on the weather, apparently in winter the cable car runs infrequently due to the weather, either the cloud is so low that you can’t see anything when you’re up there or, the wind is too strong for the cable car to run.    The number of days like today can apparently be counted on the fingers of one hand!

Once at the top the views are just incredible….Lion Rock,  Camps Bay and a view looking down the Cape of Good Hope.

     

Just to prove were really there………………..the ‘rock rabbits’ kept an eye on us and the Devil’s Peak

           

Us again, people keep asking if they can take our picture for us.   In the background is Robben Island, Nelson Mandela’s ‘home’ for 18 out of his 22 years imprisonment.   The cable car machinery house.   Not too crowded……….    and an Aloe!

         When we got back down the queues stretched for a very long way, although we were told that on some days they can be 2.5ks long.   Back in the car we drove over to Signal Hill as this is best place to actually get a picture of the mountain itself.

     We had had a very good day so far and after driving back to the hotel for a change of clothes we walked along the seafront to an Italian restaurant for what had become our habitual late lunch.    We decided to treat ourselves the seafood platter……………

   ……plus a couple of glasses of superb South African sauvignon blanc.    What a wonderful day.
