THE LEISURELY START CONTINUES

Wednesday 16th May

While we’re waiting on the arrival of the new telly we’ve moved camp to a place called Marshall Rock. There are actually two rocks but one has a graded track that looks as though it goes up to the top, the other is a walk up job……………….

…………..we’re standing on the walk up one, looking at the other one.

You’re looking at about half the available camping area, there is plenty of space and at the moment only 3 or 4 vans.

The drop toilet is very clean and the toilet rolls get replenished every day, there are several bins that get emptied on a regular basis. Of course, there are also – flies! This is the Wheatbelt! There seem to be more than usual for this time of year but that may be due to the dry summer.

Sunday 19th May

We have had five full days here and it has been very relaxing, though the time has passed quite quickly because we have both been doing jobs that needed doing or, that we have thought about but never got round thinking them through and actually doing something about it.

Perhaps the best thing has been sitting round our campfire each night looking at the hemisphere of stars above us. In actual fact the last three nights have been enhanced by a waxing moon. There is something rather special about this time of the day, having just watched the sun go down and the darkness arrives, the breeze just moving the trees and the birds settling down for the night. Then the stars and the Milky Way slowly appear.

Satelllite spotting has been back on the entertainment list and took one night to get back into the swing of it, only spotting four or five. We gradually got better and had a brilliant night tonight.

We had just spotted ten standard satellites, when we saw what we believed to be seven of Elon Musks satellites go across the sky one after the other, fantastic. (His “string of pearls”) A couple more standard satellites ….and then….nineteen (19) Musk saellites one after the other on the same orbit about one minute apart (from our perspective that is!). An amazing experience, the last time we saw any these Elon Musk satellites was at 40 Mile beach about four years ago.

We’re moving tomorrow and thought we’d try and publish this since we probably won’t have any internet for a few days now.

  1. Wow great pics!

Lol yes your reply came through twice :)

Mum and Dad are in Majorca until the weekend, they look like they are having a good time.

I have been spending a few days of relative peace and quiet at my season pitch in Banham. I find it quite relaxing living in a little box on wheels for a while. We have quite good dark sky’s here, not bad for satellite spotting, but not the Milky Way. We have only seen that twice, once out at Wells-Next-The-Sea and once on Orkney.

Banham did have a short burst of the Aurora last weekend, which I missed around 3/4am. But a photographer friend got some lovely shots from her home just up the road.

But reading your blogs is giving me the wander bug again and longing to get back to Oz.

I think I will now have to concentrate on a new plan to get back to Oz, become a Grey Nomad and Go Bush.

    Happy Blogging

    Love to you both

    Patricia
