Monday 13th March
We have longish run today heading for a bush camp at Wellstead, about 300ks. We stopped in Ravensthorpe for a coffee, dump the toilet and do a bit of shopping. There is a detour out of here which takes us back to the Lake King road and the ‘river crossing’ we had 10 days ago, now completely dry, down a dirt road and back onto the South Coast Hwy, only 20 ks from Ravensthorpe, a round trip of over a hundred ks!
On arriving at Wellstead we decided that it was too exposed to the weather and backtracked to Tozer’s bush camp on the Bremer Bay Road. It’s been very well laid out but there is literally no shelter for a caravan, fortunately the wind wasn’t too bad but we decided to leave in the morning.
Tuesday 14th March
Pat wanted to go and take a look at Miller’s Point, another bush camp off the Bremer Bay road where we had been before. The dirt road in is OK but has a very steep section at the end. Having had a look round we decide to stay here for the rest of the day and tonight.
In good weather this is a nice spot and the view from our ‘lounge’ window looking down the inlet, would be a brighter
The weather is not good and the site is a bit exposed on a promontory which sticks out into the Beaufort Inlet. We had some light rain through the afternoon but it is the caravan is rocking in the wind, which is an indication of how strong it is. A noisy night!
Wednesday 15th March
Today we’re heading for Albany and then Denmark where will catch up with the Bushtracker group.
Driving into the caravan park we find that several people are already there and it’s greetings and hugs all round. Of course there is plenty of advice on reversing as we manoeuvre the van into it’s bay, connect water, electricity and grey water. By the time the awning is up and the chairs out we have visitors and the catching up begins, all good stuff.
Thursday to Wednesday
Rather than rabbit on about what we’ve been up during the week we thought we’d just post some photos. We have been having a lot of fun and the week seems to have flown by, we have picked up some very good tips about where to go when we get up to the Kimberley and some good tips on things that other people have done to modify their vans and tow vehicles, all good stuff. We’re leaving tomorrow, which is just as well as the weather is getting quite cold and we have needed to run the diesel heater in the mornings.
These pictures are at a few locations along the coast, there was a 5m swell running!
Several people have canoes of various descriptions and we are considering getting one ourselves so we have been trying other people’s to see what suits us. Brad’s has paddles and it’s like riding a bike but we found it a little uncomfortable, we’ll probably stick to paddles. A short video of Pat taking to the water. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AksnrQT2cvoGvxQDDJsdbBJuhXKj
So we had a great time and as usual, coming up the freeway on the way home, we discussed the option of just keeping going. Sadly there are other pressing matters but it won’t be too long before we’re ‘on the road again’, hopefully at the end of April.
And finally ‘A Senior’s Moment’……… https://1drv.ms/v/s!AksnrQT2cvoGv3BQw2oT_YZC1Udm
